If you drive, I'm guessing you've done it too. Big hurry, no time to get where I'm going... and oooopsss... that's a stop sign! Even if the road isn't slick, the sand and chat they spread for traction can be slippery in it's own way. I've more than once slide through or further than I wanted from loose rocks. Wednesday I stepped out of the building and found the parking lot to be much more slippery than I expected - and it left me looking for some solid ground.
There is nothing as slippery as our will, our wants, our feelings. These things aren't wrong things - but they aren't reliable to determine truth. It is God's will alone that is our guide. We are surrounded with the message that there is no right or wrong other than what you feel in your heart. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world-the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does-comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever (1 John 2:15-17).
I was given permission to share some thoughts with the church during our potluck lunch on Sunday, and I can't wait. I've come to the point in my life that I couldn't care less if we have a "program" that is "successful" or appreciated - or even liked. I am passionately convinced that helping each other LOCK ON THE ROCK is what what need to spend our time doing.
If you didn't bring lunch, don't worry, just come. We have good people who will take care of things. I want to spend some time with you sharing about our Rock Climbing adventures this year. Lots to tell you about.
Also, we've done a fair amount of work on the website to help explain what we are up to... go there and check out "student ministries".
?'s to think about: What "rocks" do you have in your life or your families' life that are posers? You know -- the urgent over the important? How is the "need" versus "want" thing going? What about "spiritual development" over secular or academic accomplishments. Reread John's words... what is first love, really? Is there anything in your life that is causing the love of the Father be squeezed out?
We all need help to LOCK ON THE ROCK. That's our focus for our students this year... will you be a part of it? Remember the 3 R's: Refuge (Link to Jesus), Reinforce (Link to Christians), and Rescue (Link others to Jesus). Rusty
