I haven't heard much about LTC this year, are we doing it or not?
Yes, we are doing LTC, but in a different way. We are going to make LTC more a part of our overall efforts. It is a leadership event, so it will show up in our ministry as an "ultimate challenge" with regard to LOCK ON THE ROCK.
Will LTC be different this year?
Yes and no. Yes, because we pray that it is better and better each year and it's amazing how God works through our kids to do great and mighty things. I am amazed at the talent, servant hearts and potential of our young folks. There are a couple of new events. One is called SHORT FILM, which for us is a Rescue Event -- you basically produce a short movie, which looks really promising to me. On the other hand, no, because the overall structure is the same.
Will changes in leadership of LTC take away from LTC?
No. We have several on the board so that when we have changes the effort continues.
Why is LTC on a different weekend?
This year the Final Four falls on Easter Weekend in Indy. For this year only, the hotel extended Easter rates to us for May 7-9. Since it is Mother's Day weekend, we plan to do something special for moms.
Why is it usually on Easter?
Hotels don't usually have much business on Easter weekend, so they extend REALLY good rates to us to use their hotel. If we didn't use this weekend, we would have to quadruple the student fee, which we think is a bad idea.
Can the schedule be changed, since we don't get Good Friday off?
I know that is concerning to people. We are looking at the schedule, but there really isn't a lot of wiggle room - and we prefer not to run events on Sunday, but we may have to. We are still studying this. I would also like to ask those of us who live so close to consider this: we are leading in this Spiritual Leadership event. We have never just "participated" - we have helped lead significantly. Also, more and more people do not get Good Friday as a holiday - a bunch of Christians value LTC so much that they take personal days and take kids out of School on Friday to travel long, very long distances to get there. For them the date change isn't any different. So I say all that to say that we are studying the issue, but it's tough one to resolve. Many of you know because your students have attended other events, but schools recognize and excuse students for religious events. I am willing to write a letter so students won't have an unexcused absence. Each family will have to decide what to do as we figure out the schedule.
Are there ways I can help?
Absolutely. More info is coming. I have run several articles in the Window which are on my blog (add address above). I know everyone isn't just standing around wishing they had something to do... LOCKING ON THE ROCK is vital - so I ask you to prayerfully consider how you can help when we ask.
