A couple of years ago we took a trip to Mexico to do a VBS with the Lunas who attended at Alto Road years ago. Their home is Reynosa, Mexico. There are many fond memories of our time in Reynosa—but one stands out to most to me…
The EAGERNESS of the children. We gave them yellows shirts with the VBS theme on it—so every morning the bumpy dirt street leading to the building was full of yellow dots bumping up and down as they came to join us. Vans that would make our old bus look luxurious pulled up and when the door opened—I think 25 kids would pour off a 15 passenger van. It was awesome!
And it’s medicine to the soul in a time when the busyness and prosperity of our times can woo us into being “Christian critics” if there really is such a thing. I think some people really believe that their job is to show up on Sunday to evaluate what takes place here. Are you kidding me?
Well, anyway, none of that in Mexico. Just eagerness! Someone commented that it looked like chickens coming down the street… it was incredible. I had a similar experience last Wednesday night. Due to a little mix up, I got to go with Hardy Scott on the van ride to Vinton Woods. I wish you could have been there. Our friends were jumping up and down excited and ready to come to Power Hour—14 came with us. What a blessing to us! I appreciate our young friends very much for reminding me of Jesus view of children.
