I hear lots of things today about downfalls of men. And I've met a bunch and read about more who really have lost the meaning of being a true man - the way God had in mind. That many men in Kokomo have lost this direction is a pretty well known fact. And there's lots of people in pain because of it. I could go on with my opinions on how society is trying to neuter men - but I've got better things to blog about.
Today I attended Kokomo Huddle for the first time. I've intended to go many times and one crisis or another just keeps popping up. I almost didn't go today because I was out of time. But I'm sure glad I did. I came into a room full of men at tables enjoying a meal which I was quickly invited to join. I met some really neat people today - and right here in my own community. I was very impressed listening to Travis Tafinger and Casey Cline talk about Bridges Outreach Program in Kokomo schools to mentor at risk kids.
This is a nondenominational effort - which is to me is a catch phrase for churches which believe a bunch of different things - ignoring that fact so they can work together. That has merit, but I believe the Scriptures which divide soul and marrow (Hebrews 4:12) lead us to be UNdenominational. I believe there is a far deeper meaning to Jesus prayer for unity in John 17 than having churches of multiple flavors who can get along with each other.
That being said, I found myself among hundreds of guys in my own hometown who care deeply for the children of our city who are in pain many fail to see. That's speaks volumes to me - so I'm going back.

Great to have you today! I missed it due to a sick child, but I am planning to listen online tomorrow during lunch. There was a talk in 2007 that spoke directly to what you are talking about. It was on March 28, and it's available at http://www.kokomohuddle.org/year_3/070328W25_001.mp3. It's the most listened to talk so far. Kevin Butcher is the speaker. Looking forward to having you back.
