Rock Climbing Tip: Find Rest Spots

Regardless of the speed of climbing, climbers who look for and take rests will do better than those who do not. Learning to spot and take advantage of rest spots is a very important technique in rock climbing. The reason climbers peel off high routes within their ability level is they do not manage their rest properly. The key to developing the climbing technique of resting is finding them in the preview as they ascend the route. Pick rest spots from the ground (indoorclimbing.com).

How is your Christian rock climbing going? In my journey of LOCKING ON THE ROCK, finding rest spots is one of my most overlooked keys. We are climbing on the ROCK, Jesus Christ. We seek to take refuge in the Rock, reinforce our grip on the Rock, and rescue others to the Rock.

Note that extended climbers PLAN their rest spots before they climb. Is it any wonder that Jesus frequently went off by himself to pray? Perhaps the Creator had a pretty good idea in taking a day off a week to rest.
Where are your rest stops? The last year or so, worshipping God has become my rest spot. Oh, I know we want to be evangelistic and serving -- and we should be... but I have come to believe that worship is more STOPPING and aligning myself with the will of God than anyting else. That happens when I'm telling God how cool He is and seeking His guidance. This is also what Bible Class is about to me. When I'm resting in the Lord, we can pretty much sing any song, anyone can pray, anyone can lead communion - and it doesn't affect my day - as long as resting in the Lord is happening.

I wish I could say this is my point of view all the time - I'm not that mature. However, when I'm resting in the Lord, the rest of my climb is quite different. Why not PLAN for Bible class and worship this week? We plan for other things we think are important.

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge (Psalm 62:5-8).
