I’m writing this as I’m blessed to look out the van window and be in awe at the snow covered Smokie mountain tops as we are driving home. Almost everyone in the van is asleep. This weekend 32 of us traveled to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for a teen youth rally called Winterfest. It’s a lightly attended event with only 14,000 participants. The topic was the “Veil”. It related to the worldly things that Satan uses to “blind” us to the truth. This worldliness is the “Babylon” referred to frequently throughout Scripture. It was a powerful weekend with our young folks doing an extraordinary thing by listing on paper the things that are veiling them from Christ. One thing that I keep hearing our folks say was, they didn’t even realize they were being blinded by things of the world. It’s such a part of our life. We want to take off the veil so that we can see the Master clearly, and so that we can be seen clearly for Christ. We are not naïve – removal of the veil brings persecution and difficulty from the world, Babylon. Satan doesn’t turn lose easily.
It was an amazing time. Ask youth or adults who went. It was such an encouraging weekend. I was blessed to be a part of several conversations of people excited not to just learn it, but to “do” what we learned… I’m looking for some pretty cool stuff to follow for the Lord. Just so you know, we were blessed to be in the presence of so many teens, and we were also reminded by simple observation that we have a group of students who are reverent, helpful, dedicated, and the real deal when it comes to following Christ. That’s easy for us to lose site of with all that goes on all the time.
Also, special thanks goes to our dedicated group of chaperon's this year: Mike & Carrie Padgett, Tim Simpson, Dean Melcher, Ryan & Stephanie Middleton, Gail Carter & Peggi Miller. God blessed us this weekend
